Therapeutic Garden Horticulture Space

by | The Village

Kiwanis Village is engaging in a community-led design process to install a Therapeutic Garden space at Kiwanis Village. This space will become a place of rest, release, peace, and purposefulness for the Residents, families, staff, and neighbors of our community. Through community consultation sessions, the Residents and staff determined how they hope to help and engage with the garden space. With this feedback, the VIU Horticulture students created a collection of landscape designs, which were then voted on to solidify a final design.

Thanks to the Kiwanis Board and community donors, including the Nanaimo Foundation, Heart for Music Foundation, Sharecost Nanaimo, North Arrow Landscapes, and the New Horizons for Seniors Funding, we have accomplished our long-term goal of building this therapeutic garden space for the Kiwanis Village Community. We invite you to come and explore the space at any time!

If you’re interested in volunteering some of your time in building and maintaining this space or have any questions about this project, please connect with our Horticultural Therapist, Bianca van der Stoel, at [email protected]
