Volunteering at Kiwanis
Kiwanis volunteers leave an indelible impression on every life they touch. They are the heart and soul of our Village, and we value them deeply. They inspire community engagement, and through simple acts of kindness, they provide support and friendship to our residents. We offer a range of rewarding volunteer opportunities and collaborate with you to find your most meaningful role.
Current Volunteer Opportunities
Provide regular (usually weekly) assistance with scheduled recreation and social programs, including outings and special events. Activities are a very important part of our residents’ lives and your support allows residents to participate to their fullest. This is a fun and easy way to share your time with seniors. Volunteers assisting with activities are trained on an ongoing basis and are typically ready to begin volunteering about two weeks after contacting us.
General Store Clerks
Carry out a regular weekly shift volunteering in the store independently, operating the cash register and assisting residents with their purchases. The store is located within the social hub of the Village and typically hosts both quiet and busy times during a volunteer’s two-hour shift.
Casual opportunities are also available.
Meals on Wheels Drivers
Connect people living in the community to hot and nutritious meals. Meals on Wheels Drivers are invaluable to the success of this program and make a great impact in just a little over an hour of their time per week. The benefits of this program go well beyond meals and for many clients, friendly conversation with a Driver are looked forward to daily. Opportunities are available Monday through Saturday, with meal pick up and deliveries from 2:45pm to 4:00pm. Casual opportunities are also available.
“It takes many caring hands to build a Village and our team of Volunteers are very much a part of the Kiwanis family. Through their service, we see a loving and invested community at work.”
Lyndsay Webster, Kiwanis Volunteer Coordinator
Enjoy spending time with seniors within one of the following roles:
All Friendly Visitor roles require a volunteer commitment of at least three months, and volunteers typically provide one hour of support per week (alternate schedules, vacations and other absences are supported).
Meet a group of diverse residents, and be an important part of connecting them with meaningful activity. Besides socializing, visits will be based on volunteers’ and residents’ skills and interests and might include activities such as walking, playing games, and providing support. This is our most flexible volunteer role, where you can visit on the days of the week and at the times that best suit your schedule.
Adult Day Program
Support our staff in this program that promotes an active and engaged lifestyle for community clients. You will offer a mixture of visiting and activity support in this role. Commitments are one day per week, weekdays, typically from 10:00am to 3:00pm, although shorter shifts can be accommodated.
Connect a senior with books that they love by reading aloud to them. Volunteers support residents who are no longer able to read independently. This opportunity is very flexible and will occur at a time and day of the week that is agreed upon between the volunteer and resident.
