Donation Opportunities

Kiwanis Village Nanaimo is owned and operated by the Nanaimo District Senior Citizens’ Housing Development Society. This non-profit society is a registered charity and we are pleased to issue charitable tax receipts for any donation over $25.00. Recognition of specific donations will be discussed with individual donors.

There are many ways you can assist our society:

Resident Enhancements:

While Kiwanis Village Nanaimo receives public funding for many of our buildings, we are always looking for ways to make our residents’ lives better. Currently we are accepting donations towards projects such as:

  •  Kiwanis Village Outdoor Areas – e.g. Lodge patio, shade structures, outdoor seating
  •  Specialized Care Equipment – e.g. blanket warmers, pressure-reducing mattresses.
  •  Specialized Programs for residents – e.g. drama therapy, art therapy, music therapy and special performances

Donation in Memoriam:

Kiwanis Village Nanaimo honours our former residents at “Remembering a Friend” celebrations. We also have a number of ways you can honour our former residents. Our Memorial Garden in the centre of our Village is a beautiful, serene gathering place for our residents. Some past donations include our bus, the fountain, trees and benches that have been dedicated to our former residents.

All donations are gratefully accepted and appreciated.  Download the Donation Form.

Ipod Donation Drive – Music & Memory

We are excited to announce a new project, Music & Memory, where we will engage residents with personalized music.  We are the first organization in B.C. to take part and are looking forward to many benefits based on the promising results in seniors’ residences across the United States and Eastern Canada.  Participants are able to tap into memories, experience more happiness, feel calmer, and otherwise unresponsive residents light up and may even hold conversations in response to familiar music.  For more information about Music and Memory, including a link to a fascinating video that demonstrates the benefits this program can produce, please see our “News” section.

We hope that you and the community will show your support for this amazing program! We are seeking donations of ipods of any generation, with charger, as well as donations of itunes gift cards, and gift cards to stores that sell ipods.  This is a great use for that older ipod that has been sitting in your drawer since you replaced it with a newer version.  All donations of money and new equipment valued at $25 or more will be provided with a charitable tax receipt, by request.

Please deliver all ipod donations to Kiwanis Lodge, 1221 Kiwanis Crescent, at the main activity desk located on the first floor.  Drop-off hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm.  Your support is much appreciated!
